1. Setup Meta Tags
One of the key and basic elements in having a successful website is to setup meta tags on your webpages. Without meta tags, search engines have a hard time figuring out what content is provided by your website.
What are Meta Tags? Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag. In the context of search engine optimization, when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag. The meta description tag and the meta keywords tag are not seen by users. Instead, these tags main purpose is providing meta document data to user agents, such as search engines.
Step by Step Instructions: Before you begin, we suggest that you have a basic understanding of HTML, if you do not, please stop reading this and learn some basic HTML at http://w3schools.com/html/default.asp. If you know basic HTML, lets get started.
<meta name=”description” content=”This Web page
contains information on dog training, including modern
training techniques, training news, info on training
centers and links to other dog-training sites.”>
<meta name=”keywords” content=”Dog,
training, puppy, techniques, centers, links, leash,
teaching, commands, sit, stay, fetch, beg”>
The code above is a basic example of 2 of the most common meta tags used for search engine optimization. If you do not have these tags in your webpages, please add them so that search engine spiders can read them, thus, categorizing your webpage according to the keywords you provided.
The meta description will be what is shown in the search engine results (right below your title link) and the meta keywords determines where your webpages should be categorized into. So please choose keywords that describe your website, this will prevent any confusions with search results.
2. Obtaining Backlinks
Obtaining Backlinks is a little more trickier and takes alot of patience. Backlinks are basically links to your website from other websites (a great method to increase traffic). Many website owners value backlinks because the more backlinks you have, the more incoming traffic you’ll receive.
Building Backlinks: We suggest posting your website URLs at our community section under the “Partnerships” forum and introducing yourself to the community. This is great way to interact with other website owners and hopefully land you a partnership with other website owners. The importance of having partnerships is for link exchanging purposes, which ultimately increases your backlinks and your partners’ backlinks.
There are also other services available to increase your backlinks, we may provide additional backlink packages in the near future.
3. Install Web Analytics
A great way to keep track of all your visitors along with their statistics (web browser client, location, etc) is installing a web analytics tool. Google provides one of the top analytics tools available and you can get yours at http://www.google.com/analytics. Web Analytics is a great tool to keep track who is referring to your websites and additional information like traffic sources, bounce rate, unique visitors, pageviews, and avg. time on site.
There are also other web analytics tools available, AWStats (comes pre-installed in many webhosting providers).
